Using your Halo battery with a BMS connection

1. Battery to inverter connection;

A regular straight ethernet cable will work, but If you want to crimp your own cable see the pinout  table and diagram below.

Luxpower Inverters have 2 pinouts depending on:

  • Cable A:
    • Batt4  >>> INV4
    • Batt5 >>> INV5
  • Cable B:
    • Batt4 >>> INV4
    • Batt 5 >>> INV3
Cable A: Straight Ethernet
Cable B: Custom Ethernet

2. Multiple (parallel) batteries;

Use an Ethernet patch cable to connect from Battery RS485 port (1 or 2) to next Battery RS485 port (1 or 2) . See the wiring diagram below, connections in red. Using the DIP switches on the battery, starting at Address 1, configure the battery addresses for each battery in your system.

When multiple Batteries are used ( in parallel ) then the Ah and A settings will increase, but the voltages and % values will stay the same in the configurations.

For example: If 1 Battery is used the capacity is 110Ah, if 2 are used, the capacity is 220Ah, if 3 are used the capacity is 330Ah but the charge, float and cutoff voltages stay the same for all of the configurations.

The same for the Charge and Discharge currents: If 1 Battery is used the charge and discharge currents are 100A, if 2 are used the charge and discharge currents are 200A, if 3 are used the charge and discharge currents are 300A. Care must be taken to use Busbars or correctly sized cables to carry these currents.

FAQs

How do you setup multiple batteries?

See table above and check your product manual for a more detailed explanation. You will have to set dip switch settings per battery to give them a unique address. You also have to connect the included RJ45 battery link cables into the “Battery Link” port of each battery. Ensure your master battery dip switch 1 is on, 2,3,4 is OFF. Only the master battery CAN Bus will be enabled. You can then connect the into the CAN port of the master battery for communications to work.

Do I have to use the communication battery link cables if I don’t want to monitor or have communications?

Yes
